Calling all Herons

Calling all Herons - 06/01/07 03:06 AM

Thought everyone could submit a Heron,Egret, or Bittern pic for fun. Glamson has some great ones I've seen.
The rules are you need to submit a different species than someone else has already.
Here's a Green Heron to start it off.

This is definitely my kind of thread. I hope I'm not cheating here but how about a couple of Greats (Great Egret and Great Blue Heron) mixing it up.

Here's the Tri-Color. For some reason, linking to my PBase images seems problematic - the images seem to come and go. The preview looks fine. Anyone have an answer for this?

Re: Calling all Herons - mystery heron - 06/07/07 12:34 AM

OK this is the last Heron in my collection. I thought I'd make it a little more interesting and see if anyone can identify it. I can tell you it's not from around here.

I really don't have a clue as to the mystery Heron.

Again great participation all.

Re: Mystery heron revealed - 06/19/07 04:59 PM

Well no one took a stab at my mystery heron. For those of you that are curious the heron is an inhabitant of the upper Amazon basin in Ecuador. It is a Rufescent Tiger Heron and this particular one I captured at the Sacha Lodge on the Napo River (a tributary to the Amazon).

Hey Folks,

Can anyone else see Kent's images? I am having trouble seeing them myself. Is anyone else using pbase to link photos?

Herons - One from the Galapagos - 06/26/07 02:32 PM

Turns out I haven't exhausted all my Herons. Here is a relatively rare Lava Heron on Geonovesa Island in the Galapagos.

New to this forum - I'll jump in with a couple of shots, if that's OK? Taken at the "Rookery," near the Duck Pond in Palo Alto, CA:
