Yes they are more of a nocturnal nature, about as big as a labrador retriever and they are very wary as you can see a hyena or lion would love one for some horsdouvers.

That looks like some kind of prehistoric creature. Very cool, unique markings. I've never heard of one either.

Racoon face, cat coloring, short legs..... looks like some kind of Mr. Potato childs creation. Thanks for the education. Love to learn about new or should I say unknown to me creatures.

This is the African Civet, apparently with different genetics than the Asian Civet. However, check this out....

"It has been suggested that the practice of eating palm civets may have resulted in the SARS virus outbreak of 2003. In January 2004, Guangdong province in China banned sales and ordered the slaughter of all captive civets. In January 2004 the United States announced an embargo on the importation of civets."
