Common Yellowthroat

Common Yellowthroat - 05/16/11 09:13 PM

These beautiful little guys are quite aggressive. I know this looks like a sunny afternoon, but I shot this on a very cold and drizzly mid-day here in Nashville. This species has become my big project bird of the year.
Sorry, I guess the bright yellow throat feathers are a bit blown.

Hey Durwood,

This is really beautiful. I don't think the color is blown - if they were blown out they would actually be white, yes?

Thanks
James

I consider it blown if the detail is gone. Yellows and reds are particularly difficult on birds as the feather detail can vanish in a hurry.

Yellows and reds are particularly difficult for digital sensors.

I think a bit of channel mixing could bring back the detail.

I chased these little guys on year when I was still actively birding. Never did get a good photo.

Very nice.

Thanks, Jim.

I simply overexposed the yellows, here. I did play with the channel mixer a bit and was able to get a little improvement:
