Wild Horse Photographed from a Kayak

Wild Horse Photographed from a Kayak - 11/28/11 05:20 PM

I went for a paddle yesterday morning and found some of the area's wild horses feeding on the flooded tidal flats. Here's a shot from the outing, more on the blog.

Thanks for looking.

Hey Bob,

That's really cool. Very nicely done. I particularly like the POV.

Bob,
I love that when you're shooting from the kayak, you are so low to your subjects. I personally love that angle but at my age, getting "low" on terra firma requires that I also figure out a way to get back up smile. On the other hand, you must have to balance the kayak while you're shooting and that's a bit like rubbing your tummy while you pat your head. Great images. Can't wait to see more.

Thank you very much James. I think you've read one or more of my pontifications on low POVs. wink

Thanks much Jim. I understand the issue of getting back up all too well... more and more so every day! wink Kayaks are a lot more stable than most people realize. I used to be quite in love with canoes and fast water when I lived in the midwest. In those days my beliefs were than kayaks were tipsy, flipsy, unstable little boats. Perhaps in those days they were! But modern kayaks are much more stable than any canoe I've ever paddled. The only tricky parts are getting in and getting out. Everything else is pretty much smooth sailing. Obviously anytime you're hand-holding a long lens there are issues to deal with. Kayaks do rock around with waves. There is a bit of a learning curve but it's not too difficult.
