What Kind of Hawk Is This ?

What Kind of Hawk Is This ? - 01/07/16 01:47 AM

In the past I posted pictures of a pair of Cooper's Hawks that frequent the bird bath in our front yard. But this guy/gal who is much larger than they are paid us an unexpected visit on Thanksgiving day. The bird bath s/he is standing in and on is 18" in diameter and stands 18" tall. I'm guessing s/he was every bit of 24" tall (not counting the tail feathers). I don't know enough to tell if this is a Red Tailed Hawk or a Ferruginous.

Sorry for the IQ, but shot through my tinted front window.

Hey Jim,

I am not exactly sure, honestly. Was this in the back yard???

It was in the front yard. My guess is that it is a Ferruginous Hawk, but I don't really know. It really seemed huge compared to the Coopers and Red Tailed Hawks we usually see around here.
