Captured a few interesting ice images last night, thought some of you art types might like them. If you want to see more you can go here:

Awesome! The last one reminds me of one of those stereoscopic images.

Hey Tony,

I like all three a bunch. However, you have two on your smugmug site that I like even better. #228 and 4936, because I love the pattern to the ice. Absolutely beautiful work - and as I said to you in your PM, very different from anything I have ever seen you post here.

Thanks for taking the time to look and comment. I'm always trying to find new an unique photographic opportunities, sometimes they just fall into out laps, like this one. I was sad to see the light go, i just wanted to stay and keep shooting. . .

Thanks again for taking the time to look and comment.

Tony

Tony,

These are really nice. The combination of great light and wonderful abstract patterns is superb. I know what you mean when a great shooting opportunity arises and you just don't want it to end. I'll bet those gloves of yours came in handy for this one.

BTW I just can't resist on the first one since I know what a stickler you are on level horizons. It may be an optical delusion on my part, but is that horizon just slightly tilted ? Doesn't really bother me and I really like the cloud formation in spite of it not quite satisfying all those rules of composition.

Great job as always,

Geo

Thanks Geo for the comments. The image has a little bit of both going on, perspective and not level. I made a slight adjustment to take out the perspective issue mostly created with using a wide lens, but I agree with you, I did not do enough, it is off by about .1 or .2.

I will put up another, and it too has a slight issue with level, although the shore line on the right side does lead back to my position, so it should look the way it does, it's also not helped by the lens distortion. . .

I also could have used a tripod but I did not have one so I was hand holding these shots in the wind.

Thanks,

Tony

Hi Tony,

Wonderful images! Very different indeed! Would you be willing to share your technique on taking these images? How much post-processing was necessary to create the motion effect? I had initially assumed that you were shooting with a tripod, allowing you to freeze the still foreground, while having the wave motion magnified with a slow shutter speed. But reading that you hand-held these shots, I am no longer sure. Care to elaborate? Please?

Thanks Gen, I appreciate the comments.

There is minimal post processing and NO trickery no filters, no blurring or warping or any special tools, they are RAW's converted to jpgs with Lightroom only. I think the exif is still intact if you have a reader you will know for sure what my settings were.

I do know that I only use Lightroom and only do minor adjustments. All the shots posted here and on my website were shot hand held with either a nikon d300, 17-35 2.8 at f16 or 18, or a 70-200 2.8 vr at f11-f18, iso 200 or 400 and from about 1/20th to 2 seconds, hand held, most of the closeups were were long exposures. Again, check the exif if you have a reader. . .

I did brace against a rock for the landscape shot. I wish I had had my tripod I could have gotten some stunning shots, but as it was I left it at home - booohoooo. . .

Again, thanks for asking.

Tony

Hi Tony,

Maybe I don't know what I am doing, but looking at these images (the ones posted above) in either Lightroom or Bridge doesn't reveal the meta data. Any advice?

The EXIF is not intact in the images above. At least not in any form that can be read by any of the readers I use.
