We let our membership at the Fairchild Garden expire a long time ago, so we went back when they had the "Free Sundays" this past month. Instead of going back to the more frequented and groomed areas of the garden, we walked around the more natural areas.

The best part of the visit was seeing all these soft shell turtles swimming towards us in the lakes. A large one posed for some close up shots.











These were shot with a stock Canon S5 IS.

I like your photos but the iguana is not a native to Florida and are causing damage to our ecosystem. I wish people would understand not to release their pets into the wild.

Hi Margaret,

It seems like a regular problem in Florida. I joke about it in the National Park News thread periodically, but the Everglades has some serious problems to face with invasive species. It is a rare day when I don't see at least one article about Ball Pythons there.
