OLD Buck & Me @ minus 10 degrees f

I got to a ridge before daylight, my plan was to hike in about 1/2 mile to try and ambush some elk. Then I looked at the temperature -10 f , I looked in the back of the camera wagon at my snowshoes and then back at the temperature gauge, it had NOT warmed up in the last 42 seconds so I decided I would just park the camera wagon in some cedars and drink coffee and see if anything came into view.

A silhouette showed up trying to find something to eat in a little meadow so I grabbed a few shots. After another cup of coffee and a little more light had become available I saw that I was watching a very old buck who didn't get around very good anymore. He was moving very slow and just was not interested in staying out in the weather so he went back into the dark timber for some cover and to bed down. I am guessing he is around 9 years old and for around here that is a very old buck.

I finished my cup of coffee and thanked the old guy and then I realized that he and I were on the same page this day, just really not into putting forth a lot of effort. I had my camera wagon and he had the cover of dark timber so we both could just wait for another day for more action.

Oooooops my bad, I never got out of the camera wagon, I just turned my head and looked at them in the back and then turned back and looked back at the temperature gauge.

I think the backside is in better focuse than the frontside, but I especially like that last one. The stance and action of the buck, the background and the overall composition is really nice.

This time I stayed in the camera wagon with the heater on and hot coffee in my cup.
