Well I spent a cold and wasted morning in which I drove 45 minutes just to encounter no eagles in range. The day ended well though when I found this guy 5 minutes from the house. Not much room to shoot though as I saw him on the side of the Canyon road and there's no real shoulder to shoot from. I wound up pulling the truck into a snowbank and then stood in deep snow on the other side of the road to get the shots. The headshot is a crop from an image where I was just too close with the 800mm to fit the whole bird in.

It was supposedly about 20 degrees but man the wind was kicking. Left my gloves in the car and my hands went numb in the few minutes I had with the bird, great fun!!

Beautiful shots! I love that piercing stare on the head shot.

LOL, that is both a great way and a difficult way to spend your day. Beautiful work as usual - I love that head shot. How much of a crop is it?

It's close to a 40% crop I'd say. The bird went vertical right when I moved in closer (people on the other side of the narrow river spooked it) and it's whole tail section was cut off in the frame.

Very nice. I think the first one is my favorite.
