CC on anything welcome! I recently bought PSE8 (though my knowledge of the program is still very limited) and I am now calibrated.

These were taken using all natural light that comes in through my patio doors.

Hi Kerri,

Jack is very handsome! That's some really beautiful window light you have there and I love the muted blue background. My favorite of the bunch is the first because of his expression, the crop, and the light. In the second one Jack's face is a little hot on camera right and I find it a little distracting. He looks so playful though! My least favorite is the last one. I'm just not a fan of crotch shots on male dogs.

Again, nice job on this series. I'd love to see more of your work (and Jack!).

~Kelly

Thanks for taking the time to cc my photos, Kelly!

Does his face being "hot" mean that it's close to being blown?

I had him turned at around a 45 degree angle from the light source (door). I'm a beginner with all of this and kind of like the shadowed look but maybe it's too much? I have used a piece of white, foamcore board for a reflector when photographing my kids that works well, perhaps I should have used it here.

I didn't think about male dogs and crotch shots before (obviously!). Thanks for the tip. I'll be more careful about that from now on.

I like the second one.

Yes, "hot" means close to blown. That said, I measured it and the highest reading I got was 250 in two channels so there is detail there that you can bring out. Even more so if you shot in RAW to start.

Hi Kerry,

I agree with Jim. That should be very easy to fix assuming it was not burned 'in camera.' Even if it was, I think that it is such a small area that it won't be hard to clone out. Nice shots. Thanks for sharing.

James
