Well, I was hoping to capture some outstanding eagle shots this year but the one day I caught a lot of action happened to be very overcast. So, best I could get shooting at ISO 800. Access to this area is now closed so I'll be lucky if I get anymore chances before they migrate out.

Hi Jim,

May be it was not a good year for you. I think these are phenominal. Any of these would be on my wall. Really well done - thanks for sharing.

James

Yes they are reflections. There were easily 20 eagles coming in and out that morning. Using our cars as blinds myself and another photographer were able to work them for about two hours. I shot over 8 gigs worth of RAW images. Then some idiot kids come flying up in a car, pulled right up to where the eagles were feeding and got out. Needless to say, that ended the shoot. Went back last Sunday but only saw one immature eagle on a distant tree.

Very nice and from the lower 48 to-boot! Nice job. Can you say where you photographed these birds. I'm not headed down there, but was it in utah, or up north? Those look like warm water fish. . .

Tony,

There's a place called Farmington Bay on the Great Salt Lake. The Eagles come here to winter and this area is reputed to have the largest concentration of wintering eagle in the lower 48 states. They open access to the area during the winter but have closed it now to allow the returning waterfowl to nest in peace. Strange place to shoot them as you can look off into the near distance and see all the congested housing area, a major interstate, etc. Good place to shoot those this winter as a captured great Kestrel and Barn Owl shots here also. Lots of Northern Harriers but they usually either stayed out of range or flew by when I was switching CF cards, LOL!!
