Hey Marty,

All three are very nice photos. My favorite is the first with the eagle just coming in on the ice. Very well composed.

Cheers
James

PS Where were these taken?

Although technically good the first pic looks staged. Why is there a fish sitting out there? The other two shots are more natural.

I doubt very much that that is a staged shot, if it is, Marty would have put himself right in the cross hairs of the law, and I know he would not do that.

I think it's a dead fish that died and washed up on the shore, I may be wrong, but I trust that Mary would not bait eagles, it is after all against the law. . .

Good series, from 'discovery' to the final shot where the eagle turns to the camera. I admit I had a thought or two about staging, but more likely it was the opportunity of seeing the fish before the eagle did, and making the best of it.

Boy Tony these forumns never sease to amaze me .,how much we can learn . I had no idea it was against the law to bait eagles just to photograph them . It shows my ignorance but I don't care , we have such few sightings around here it's just in the last few years were able to see an eagle thanks for the info now I know I want be trying this as a method of photography lol
Regards Randall

Eagles are scavengers and will respond to baiting. In fact Ben Franklin wanted our national symbol to be a turkey because the eagle "was of bad moral character".
Baiting eagles is against the law as was pointed out by Tony. But in addition I think feeding wild animals is morally wrong and has been proven to be bad for the animals in our national parks.
Eagles were taken off the Endangered species list last year but are still protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Act.
Please,I was not accusing anyone of anything but just saying Photographically it had that look.

yea, I wonder how they get away with it in alaska. I know that there's a woman there that feeds them in the winter. I think her house burned a month or so ago. a lot of eagle photos are taken at her place. . .

Yes, Jeanne Keenes is the Eagle Lady of Homer Alaska. Dave Ramey has spoken of her on this forum before. Here are a couple of links to her story

This apparently is a yearly event and many photographers take advantage of it. She has a grandfather clause that lets her feed the eagles until 2010.
