Meet Mr. Phil. I am going to try to do some more work with Mr. Phil next weekend. This one was hard getting the light right to control the shadows as Mr. Phil is so low to the ground.

These are great!! Shows lots of character and truly adorable

One thing I am curious about though, did you use guassian blur on these? The feet almost look superimposed on the backdrop

Hi Julie,

Thank you very much for the response. I think you are seeing a combination of two things. The first is that I was shooting VERY wide open - F2.4 to F4 (at the narrowest). The second problem was my working with shadow. I helped some of it a long in Photoshop (something I normally don't do) - though not by much.

Thanks again!
-JM

Great work! I love the third one, with the offset angle, best:)

It's a pretty guinea pig, they are great pets. I'll try my rabbit in front of the camera but don't expect the same degree of co-operation. What lighting did you use James, - I like No. 2, it has a nice sharp catch-light in the eye, and the slight puzzled-wondering look guineas often have - not nervous, just sussing things out.

Hey PC,

I am using the Canon wireless flash system. I have been very pleased with it. The catch light that you are seeing is one of the bounce flashes I have off of the cieling to help decrease shadows.

I know I said this earlier, but this guy was VERY hard to light due to his location to the ground. I am going to get another crack at him this weekend, so I hope that I am able to get a few things right this time.

Thanks
James

OK Folks,

I hope that everyone had a great New Years. These are my very first pet photos of '06. I have incorporated an extra flash and pole to help make light more even.

PS Mr. Pooga, if you are reading this, have fun and be safe.

Nice shots James - I particularly think you nailed in in # 2 & # 3.

I spent some time yesterday playing with my Canon A70 and frigging with the manually adjustable settings in the menus - predictably, all the shots are junk...LOL

Love digital, I'll go home and harass the dogs again tonight...

Thanks for the compliments. I am very pleased with these shots - much more so than the first batch that I did. I am going to try to do some sugar gliders later this week. This will be a new first for me. I hope that they come out well.

I agree that #2 and 3 are just great. What a cute little pig

I am anxious to see your sugar glider photos
