I have been through this area a few times on my way to Yellowstone but have not really spent any time looking for good locations. Can anyone offer a few tips on the best places to shoot. I'm going to be there on May 29th for about 4 days. Thanks.

Don

Hey Don,

Unfortunately, I have never been to Badlands. It is more than a bit of a shlep from Yellowstone (I think it is about 10 hours...though I could be wrong on that)...though it is some place I think I would really like to go to.

It has been years since I visited the Badlands. Plan to be there early morning or late afternoon for the best opportunities.

Thanks. I shot there for one sunrise last year but never got a chance to explore the area. One of my students from my last night's class is a Harley owner who rides there each year, he told me about saloon that is hidden somewhere in the badlands that can only be reached by a very rough road. Anybody hear about such a place?

My lasy trip to the bad lands was 12 years ago, but it sure has its beauty.
That motorcycle trip sounds great!
I've been to Custer (Badlands/Custer/Rushmore)too on a simular trip. We were chased off the road by Buffalo.

My wife and I stopped in the badlands about 30 years ago, we spent 2 days there and on the first day took the helo tour. The Shots were spectacular, I don't know if that album survived the typhoons that we have had in the past 20 years, I will ask my wife to send me some prints if she still has them and I will try to run them through the gimp if they need it.

If they have a helo tour, take it. It is well worth it and be sure to carry fresh batteries, and extra memory. Sure wish digital had been around when we visited...
