Working on something for a Fourth of July theme. I think they turned out OK, and am rather pleased with the lighting. Although I may add some color to match the fireworks over the one shoulder.
Just thought I'd share them...

Our other rotty is just so cute. Although she really doesn't like to pose like the big boy does...

Anthony,
stop punishing those lovely Rotties ! I like the overall effect but both Rotties could come up a bit in exposure at least on my monitor.

Also, I think I'd like to see a darker mat under the dogs. But I like the fireworks a lot.

Now, let's see you make them smile .

Jim

looks like youre having fun. I'd try popping a more, and softer hair light (so it wraps) or a very subtle background light with a color gel on it just so you can get some more separation/isolation. Also, watch the focus, it looks like your DOF was either to shallow or you just slightly missed the focus. I dont know what youre using for lights, but you may have to get them a bit closer if you cant change your exposure.

Awesome. May I ask how you did the fireworks?

Sorry, can't do it. I just cannot help but abuse my poor rotties. My co-workers are threatening to report me to some animal abuse groups.

As for smiles? The big boy just poses. He will not smile or move. The little girl is all over the place. She will smile once in a while but only when not looking at the camera. of course...

I have two machines profiled with the same equipment + software but one is a bit brighter. I see the same issue on one of the machines. (I just LOVE how color management makes life easier. ... not.)

The fireworks, well I took those a few years ago and simply layered them in with "screen" layer mode so the black sky just turns transparent.
The backdrop was black velveteen, so the setup was trivial...

Hardest part was the positioning the rear flash to give a bit of higlight as if the fireworks were really there behind them. I probably could have used some modifiers to keep the light from exposing the mat so much.

Hey Anthony,

That was a very clever mixture of compositions. Well done.

James
