Jim,
I'm with PeggySue on this one. We try to de-toughen the dogs that are perceived as tough. Our Rottie puppies get collars with flowers on them. No studs or chains even for the boys.
My older dogs get nylon slip collars with red, blue, pink and black/orange. No major chains. When they wear a chain, it's a show collar in gold or silver. Very thin. Very chic.
Of course, I've been known to put a stud collar on a poodle or a Maltese for photos. Sometimes you have to show these breeds off as the major protection dogs they are
.
The key to these "dangerous" breeds is to show them as accessible as possible. I don't mean to misrepresent them. If you have a really tough Pit or Rottie, you have to be very careful about whether or where to place them. But the sweet ones need to be portrayed as sweet.
