Don't know why I saved that as a Gif. Must have had a senior moment lol. Here is a jpg. saved at 800 pixels high. Lets see if it uploads that way.

Kent,

Yes I know about those "moments" . I can really appreciate how beautiful these falls are at this image size. Now I just wish I could see the top of the falls.

Nice job.

Geo

I actually have a shot that shows the top of the falls, but the sun was hitting it and some of the plants and it had blown highlights.

I actually had this shot printed in a 24x36 and box mounted. Which worked well because it looked like the water was coming over the top of the box. I had people fighting over who was going to buy it. I kept telling them they could all have a copy. But the first $$$$ takes it home today. It only hung for a week. I made the buyer wait so other people could see it. Plus it was hanging where I was working at the time and I liked looking at it.

Hey George,

I generally use compressed .jpg files. Do you find that the wider color range of the jpg file gets lost in monitor translation?

James,

My first response to your question was going to be that I'm sure it would make a difference. But then the scientist in me asked if that was really the case. So I took one of my jpg images with ~16 million colors and converted it to a gif with a adaptive pallete of 256 colors. On my monitor I can see some subtle differences but the gif actually looked surprisingly good although I think the jpg looks richer in color. Here they both are. You be the judge. (You may have to open two web windows with the two different images side by side).

First the jpg

Now the gif

George, I can see a huge difference on my monitor. The jpg. looks richer and I see artifacts in the Gif.

Kent,

That's interesting because I don't really see huge differences. Just out of curiousity, what monitor are you using and what resolution/color settings?

I can't see a lot of difference in the colors, but the gif shows a lot more graininess. Call it artifacts or pixelization, or whatever. I had to pull them up in CS3 and blow them up to REALLY see the difference though.

I am using an ACER AL1916W 32 bit color 1024x768 pixels.

By the way which type monitor do you prefer for editing photos for printing. LCD or CRT?
