I was bored so I got out a stand, umbrella, and an SB800. I used the Nikon CLS system for a trigger. All in all it was a fun 30 minutes this afternoon.

C&C appreciated!

Here is our 4th dog. She is a TERROR to photograph because she is so timid. She is a rescue whom we believe was originally bought as a guard dog but was beaten into submission. She is scared of the light stand!!!

Nice images. Poor baby girl. Glad she has found a safe home now.

Poor thing. It boggles the mind how cruel some people can be. Glad to hear she's got a good home now. Cute photos, I especially like the second one, love the look on his/her face.

Although she probably thinks you are still abusing her with that hat...

Chris,
thank you for giving this girl a good life. It breaks my heart to see them so afraid. And to know that people made her that way.

Dobe's are somewhat more fragile than Rotties but their job, for which they were bred, is similar. They need to be fearless to do it well. Some people think that means they have to be mean and aggressive and that's where the behavioral training gets out of hand.

Hug her for all of us. And tell her that everything is all right.

Jim

Thanks all! All of the dogs (with the exception of the Schnauzer) are rescues. The Cocker was found as a matted ball of fleas wandering the streets of Houston. He was brought into animal control and then turned over to Cocker Spaniel Rescue of Houston. He had been adopted out twice before we got him, but he was returned for his aggression towards kids. Because we are a kidless home, he fit right in and does very well. He's been with us since 2004 I believe. And the brown dog is my original. He is a Rhodesian/Pitt mix whom I 'rescued' from a hoarder. He's my $25 life long friend and the absolute BEST dog anyone could ever ask for.

We lost our 4th rescue in January of 2007. He was a 110 Weim named Rhamer. He was rescued straight from the kennels at a puppy mill during a raid by animal control and cooperating rescues. He also had epilepsy and was on a daily prescription of three different meds. He fell into a 4 hour long seizure and the vet said that IF he came out he'd probably have brain damage. Thats when we made the very hard decision to give him peace.

We are only waiting until we can buy another home of our own, which will happen hopefully in the spring. When that time comes we'll be looking to rescue another...

Jim,
Even though Hannah is still very timid, she enjoys life now and lives in the lap of luxury. She's got the biggest bed of all of the dogs, and she gets the most attention. She is the oldest of them all, and I fear that the inevitable is getting closer faster than I care to admit. But until we are faced with it, we definitely pour the love on heavy! Dont let her fool you though, she plays, and plays ROUGH with the youngest of the bunch.... the Schnauzer.

Chris,
I do a lot of Rottie Rescue so I both understand and value what you've done. We, too, have a rescue girl -- Marion Louise, a Rottie that we think might have some Lab in her. She's at least 13 years old and clearly had a difficult life before she adopted us but she's a fabulous girl who loves people, life and the rest of our pack. My favorite scene is watching her drop Sundance, our 135 male Rottie, and then get on top of him and hump his head just to let him know she's above him in the family hierarchy.

Our job is to give these guys a good life and to both enjoy them and to enjoy their time with us. Marion is no kid but she acts like one and still thinks she is one. She's truly a joy.

I'm glad Hannah is doing well. You are giving her a great life and love and companionship she never would have experienced otherwise.

Jim
