There's a small pond in the Cades Cove section of the Smoky Mountains which I regularly visit, sometimes just to soak in the peace and beauty of the place. While it's only a short walk from the loop road, not many people know it's there. I won't tell you exactly where it is but will take you there, blindfolded, of course!!
The mossy trees and logs provide so many varied shapes, textures, and colors, that on close inspection, it's like looking into a small world of it's own.
A macro rainforest, complete with deep valley and high bluff:
World on a log:
Sweet Gum Island. If those seed pods germinate, there might even be a Gum tree there in 15 or 20 years!
The Lilliputians might find the climb up this mossy mountain daunting.
While it's very peaceful, danger might be lurking there. I thought I saw an Alligator yesterday!!
All shot with D70/70-200VR (I was looking for the resident Wood Ducks with the long lens!)

Dick:)
