I had to go to work this morning and feed the store kitties. The sun was just coming up, and as you can see in the relfections, Autumn is just arriving in New England.

I know it called Great BLUE Heron, but I think it is too much blue.

I think the WB wasn't set to the actual lights.
Even on a film where I can't set the WB the colors are not turn into this strong blue.
If the WB would have been set to the right value, the color of the reflections would be turn out much better.

Otherwise it would be a lovely picture.

Really like the red reflection behind the blue heron and reflection of the heron. Nice shot!

There are tons of herons that stalk the creek behind my place. They really are that blue.

I'm not just saw but photographed great blue herons, but I never see this "digital blue" before.
Even if they are get a little blue colored never get this dark unrealistic blue. I'm not just not seen in real life but even not on photograps a blue like this.
Otherwise they are more gray than blue, only their name is Blue heron not their real color.

This picture was taken on a Fuji Astia which have the most realistic colors. This is the real color of the Great blue herons. And this is more gray than blue.

While your observations are probably correct, this isn't the critique forum.

I just mentioned, may be the WB wasn't correct.

It is not allowed, or just not allowed to me?

Why you notice only me?

Actually, Attila, this is pretty darn close to it's actual color. I checked my WB as you suggested, and I did warm the photo up some, but the original image it is a blue bird, not a gray one processed to look blue. We do have gray Blue herons, as you posted, but this one is a true blue. There is a male? (I assume it's a male) by the river with a vivid blue beak, so blue it looks fake with the yellow undersides. I am not sure if that bright blue of the beak is a heron in mating colors? I really don't know much about them.

There is no different between male or female G.B. herons. Juveniles are more pure gray but adults is much more gray than blue. The breeding plumage can be little blueish but still not as strong blue.

Also the bill is yellow/orange. Juvenil's upper bill is little blackish. On your photo the bill is also blue.
Also if you chek the legs, which should be also blackish or brown, on you picture they are blue.
You said this was taken at a morning when the sun just coming up. This time is called "blue hour" because in this time everything can be turn into blueish on a photographs if the WB is around 5500K But still I find it too much blue.

There is any chance did you shoot this with an Olympus camera?
A frend of mine shoot with Olympus and many of his puctures turn into blue like your photo.

If you don't mind I did tried to align the colors a little, how it should be looks. Of corse I gonna delete it if you want.
