Here is the Dottie X Patrick Litter

5 day old portraits You don't need lots of lights, you don't need all sorts of "stuff" but you do need imagination. Granted, these guys are tiny, as you can see they are in a cigar box. Those photos were all done in the whelping pool, with everyone in it. The hanging one was done next to it, with my wall as a backdrop. One light, nothing else

7 males and 2 females. She had 10 total, but, the first one unfortunately had its insides on the outside. It was a girl and very traumatizing to me.

They are so so cute! I'm jealous of all the fun you're going to have over the next couple months! Sorry about the one pup, I bred cats for about 13 years and had I think one, maybe two, that were deformed. It is upsetting. I can't believe she had such a huge litter, and the puppies look humongous for being so young. Congrats again...

Oh my goodness, they're so cute! I love the one in the cigar box with his (her?) lil' tongue sticking out.

They are truly adorable! Having 9 is really wonderful and Dot is being such a good mommy. The downside of whelping a litter is when things happen like with the first puppy. That situation can only be dealt with by a veterinarian and even that usually doesn't work. But you have to continue to put the effort into the rest of the delivery.

When Cassidy had her first litter, one puppy had difficulty nursing and was losing weight so we tried bottle-feeding and he was too small and frail to handle it so we tube-fed him for the first week. He put on weight but never seemed to be able to handle nursing. At the same time, our Annie daughter, Coco, was in the final stages of renal-failure and we were giving her 3 bags of fluid a day. I'd sit next to Coco with the puppy on my chest and the IV in Coco's arm and Coco would clean the puppy from head to toe. The day after Coco passed away, we brought the puppy in for a complete exam and the vet found that he had a cleft palate. We discussed the chances of his survival and concluded that it was necessary to put him down. It was a hard decision -- especially after losing Coco -- because he had shown us such tremendous strength. But it was the right answer. We had him cremated along with Coco and they are now together for all eternity. The puppy Coco never had and the surrogate mother who cleaned him during her last days on earth.

Love the ones that are with us. These pups will be very special.

Jim

Hey Julie,

Sorry that you lost the first as well...that must have been so scary. Having never been part of a delivery before, I can only imagine. The images, as usual, are just lovely. I think that my favorites are #5 and #9.

You are going to be in for a few very busy weeks, yes?

James

Beautiful pups. I look forward to see more pictures as they grow. Congratulations to Dottie.
