Hey Guys,

THese are a couple of macro shots I took with my 70-200 F2.8 and the Canon 500d step-up ring. I borrowed it from one of the forum members and really liked the effect. I was able to focus with my 70-200 at about 18 inches (as opposed to 4.5 feet at the minimum normally)

Cheers
James

So Death Valley is not totally dead after all:) I hear there are a couple times a year where it is a sight to see foliage wise. These are very nice, I like the second one better. A lot of people speak very highly of the 500d. Seems to get used in a lot of areas, including non cannon circles.

Thanks, Jeff

James, how did you manage to get the 70-200 nikkor to focus at 18 inches?

Hey Guys,

I am not sure HOW the Macro lens filter works. All I know that it works, and that it is quite sharp. The 500d is reportedly 'the best' of the macro filters - and was indeed passed off to me by a friend who owns a Nikon D2x.

How it is able to 'trick' the camera lens into focusing though is well beyond my knowledge.

James

Super macro shots, James! Beautiful exposures and focus, rivaling the dedicated macro lenses! That combo is a killer and I've been thinking about a 500D for my 70-200.

I really became aware of how much life there is in the deserts when I was in California many years ago, courtesy of the USAF. I spent a lot of time out in the Mojave and down in Mexico and just fell in love with the deserts, especially when the cactus and flowers were blooming.

Very nice images!

Best regards,

Dick:)

Thanks, Dick. I appreciate it a lot. Slowly but surely, I am getting to the place I want to be at photographically. I think my biggest problem is lack of shooting different things. I am drawn perpetually to the portrait.

James
