I've been feeling very guilty this entire Holiday Season since I've been physically unable to take or process many photos. I actually had to cancel several portrait shoots because my broken left arm required surgery and I didn't feel I could do justice to the people who hired me. However, now that I've had the splint removed (at least for most of the time) and regained some dexterity in that arm, I've been able to get back to processing. Here is an edited image from last year's Calendar shoot of our Moxie, now 13 months old. She's not the same puppy but she would want to wish you the same wishes of happiness, sharing with family and friends and great food. Especially that great food thingy ! So here's Moxie's Merry Christmas from 2009. Today, she's 87 lbs. of very pretty young lady. Then, she was 12 lbs. of very cute puppy. Happy Holidays everyone.

From,

Jim & Linda, Cassidy, Sundance, Harry Potter and, of course, Ms. Moxie

A very Merry Christmas to you too. And hopefully you will have a grand new year. I totally understand your missing this season since a pinched nerve in my neck has taken me out of commission the last six weeks. Cannot wait to get back to the image making and creative process we so enjoy in our lives.

May you and yours have a terrific day and thanks for the cute image.

Thanks Julie. Happy New Year to you, too. The arm is almost back to workable. Which is good since I have 2 shows next week and another corporate shoot the week after that. The biggest issue for me at the moment has nothing to do with actually handling the camera. It's lugging stuff -- I'm not supposed to carry much weight yet -- and toy-tossing. The toy toss used to be my greatest skill in show photography and now, that left arm just isn't working very well . I'll try to get some practice in with Moxie between now and next week.

Jim

Maybe it is time to invent a automated toy toss -
and I thought your greatest skill in show photography was the pictures you made ) - Here's to you getting back to a healthy and happy both!

Here's a great invention for us coffee drinkers -

PeggySue,
thanks for the compliment but the reason I get the shots I do is because of my toy toss ! To get the head looking exactly where you want it to look at the exact moment you have to click the shutter is the key to my win photos. That entails tossing a toy with the left hand while shooting entirely with the right and watching the dog's head until it is in exactly the right position. I've never had to think about the toss. It was automatic. Instinctive.

Now, it's awkward, painful and gets more of my focus than what I'm seeing in the viewfinder which is not good. Don't think for a minute that show formals are a coincidence of great dogs posing correctly and the photographer getting the shot. It requires a knowledge of where that head should be and the ability to get it there. At the moment, my toy-toss is broken and I'm depressed!!!!
