Saw the mother earlier today and as I returned home I found this little guy lazing unfortunately in the roadway.

Last year I saw three kits of one family killed by cars in a matter of a few days. I hope to keep this one frightened away, but the den is very close to a road that is used by people who sometimes seem to make sport of running over whatever wild thing they see.

Beautiful. I've never had the pleasure of a close-up wild fox encounter. Hope he stays out of the way on the road.

On my way home I saw the little kit lying beside the road sunning itself (about half a mile from my house.) I went home, got my gear and drove back. Using my Prius's electric motor only I was able to get within a few yards of the "young 'un". I didn't think he was going to get out of the raod, but after another car came by he slipped into the vegetation at the roadside. As he started to come back out I fired a few handheld shots out the window of my car.

Sorry to report that this animal appears to be the last surviving of a litter of six. At least one of its siblings was hit by a car.
