Glacier National Park News:
West side park plow crews avoiding avalanche dangers
More roads opened in Glacier National Park last week, but crews on the west side of the Going-to-the-Sun Road didn’t plow at the higher elevations because of severe avalanche danger. Plows are about halfway between the Loop and Haystack Creek. On the east side, crews have plowed beyond Dead Horse Point.

Two Remaining Climbers Rescued From High Camp
Two remaining injured climbers were evacuated from the 17,200-foot high camp on Mt. McKinley in the afternoon of Friday, May 13. Both climbers, one a guide and the other a client, suffered from frostbite to the hands and feet after a night spent at high elevation in cold temperatures and gusty winds. The guide also reportedly sustained a broken rib.

If someone were to tell me a year ago that I would be dressed as a life-sized clam to educate the public about the significance of clean water to the soft-shelled clam, I would have called them crazy! However, as an AmeriCorps environmental educator with the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust and the Maine Conservation Corps, I am doing just that — donning a homemade clam get-up to promote “clean water for clams.”
