Park visits off double-digits in May
Poor May weather, and record snow in the high country, not only kept Trail Ridge Road from opening on time over the Memorial Day weekend, it also cut into the number of people visiting Rocky Mountain National Park. With 156,767 people tallied in May 2011, visits were down over 18 percent from the same time last year, when 192,490 were counted. Glacier National Park is entering in to a new long term study analyzing the trends of the grizzly bear population in the northern continental divide. Bait stations, automated cameras, and traps will all be part of it which is why park officials are asking guest to keep out of such areas if passing by a clearly marked grizzly study location.
