Gday folks!

I am a new poster even though I have been registered since
December. I do not get into forums much but I like the style
and pace of NWP so thought I would try it out! Some
interesting topics/info in here.

We just got back from world heritage listed Fraser Island
(Great Sandy National Park) in SE Queensland. Just lovely.
The world's largest sand island. The birdlife there is great.

Our trip coincided with "Bird Week" there. We attended as
novice "birdos" but I am pleased at the number of birds
I got to see or photograph while there and on the
mainland at Hervey Bay. I will return one day!

I probably should have taken part in more of the arranged
activities/presentations but I was more interested in just
getting out there and taking pictures!
If anyone is interested in taking a look I have pictures split into birds, other wildlife and scenics:

Birds:

Hi Cheryl,

Welcome aboard! Glad always to add to our small, but growing family. I just checked out your pbase account. You have a great collection of birds. I find them so challenging to shoot - mostly, I think, because I am a bit too eager. LOL.

Cheers
James

Hello Cheryl,
Welcome. Nice collection of birding shots. It is always interesting to look through a gallery from "afar":) The honey eaters are a cool bird. But then again there are a lot of interesting critters there too.

Thanks, Jeff

Hi, welcome Cheryl, thought you had joined 'ages ago', good to see you posting - I hope to get to Fraser Island 'one day'. Is that where the wild dingo packs are, or am I confusing Fraser with another National Park island??

Hi again!

Thanks for the welcome and comments.

Fraser Island is a great place if you like to commune with nature. You will not find 'normal' roads there, only 4wds are allowed on the island and the roads (sand) are true roller coaster style! Bumpity bump - I got a good back massage (!!) when I got to ride up front in the 4wd 'bus'.

The honeyeaters were great, I could get quite close to some of them. I think we made alot of "birdos" jealous with our close shots of the little Scarlet Honeyeaters as apparently they are hard to photograph and buzz around high up in the trees. One morning we found them down in low branches. Very pretty.

Birds can be a challenge, thats for sure. Just because a location may have X number of sightings or X and Y species there its no guarantee of seeing or photographing. But I had a productive week there, even if I did have "shortish" telephotos :-)

Hi PC! Yes wild dingoes on Fraser, but they are not everywhere as one might expect after viewing glossy brochures. We saw one and he scampered off into the forest. No time for a picture.

regards

Cheryl
