Well, with the puppies almost gone -- last boy is meeting his new family in Atlanta this weekend, and, although we'll have Red Boy back for a visit for 10 days over Thanksgiving, we'll soon be down to our one -- we've had some time to start work on the 2012 Calendar. We debated using the shots I took of the puppies during their time with us but, after much discussion, decided to have a separate shoot with the puppies in costume to challenge our photography and puppy-wrangling skills. And, boy, did it! smile

The results, however, are starting to be integrated by Linda's creative skills into monthly scenes which will form the basis for the calendar pages. Here, for your enjoyment, are some previews. These are not finished images but should give you an idea of where we are headed. The resulting calendar will be sold at Rottweiler Specialties associated with the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship to be held in Orlando December 14-18. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Rottweiler Rescue.

First up is Ms. Pinkie, now called Diva, in her best bunny costume to celebrate the New Year.

And an image that will adorn one of the Summer months: Diva in her favorite Monkey outfit checking out the freshness of those bananas.

And, finally, Ms. Lt. Blue, CocoBear, as a Christmas Angel. Boy is that ever not good casting!

As we get more of the pages finalized, I'll share the images with the Forum. These images brought back some sweet memories. Hopefully they can generate some $$ to help Rotties not as fortunate as these puppies.

Enjoy,

Jim

And, our little May flower girl, CocoBear.

I'll post more as we complete them.

Thanks James. It was a fun shoot although we did it like a Chinese Fire Drill with puppies being dragged onto the set while the other was being dragged off smile. I think it's safe to say these guys will not be having any problems with photographers in the future. They are not the least bit intimidated by the strobes and they respond to both sound and movement. Perfect models. And Linda's decision to make paintings out of the images is her usual creative masterpiece. She'll be working on the rest after we get through Thanksgiving cooking, cleaning and sharing. Have a wonderful day, James.

Alan,
depends on the situation, the room I'm shooting in and what I'm trying to do with the images. For show formals in a large space with black dogs (I do a lot of Rottie shows), I always use two strobes but only the primary (on the "eye" side) provides a catch light while the other is to light the body. In the studio, I usually use two strobes and like the two catch-light look for people, primarily. But when space is tight and I have lots of puppy wranglers as I did for these photos, the less equipment in the way the better. I used one strobe with a PLM and since some of the final images simulate outdoors, the single catchlight is more realistic.

Alan,
here's a shot where I had more room, used two strobes and it produced the double catchlight.

Since I was shooting black on black, I wanted the extra lighting I'd get from the two strobes.
