As a rule I tend to dislike images of the wild horses where they're angled away, or looking away from the camera. Instead, my favorite iamges are those where the horse engages the camera, looking at the viewer. However, as they say, there are exceptions to every rule. I find this image quite enjoyable. I suspect it's because the intent look, alert ears and posture makes one wonder what has caught the horse's attention. Honestly I have no idea what the horse was gazing at. I didn't ecounter any other hikers on the island that morning. At one point I did see a fox watching me from a distance but I doubt a horse would pay any attention to a fox. Whatever the source of attention, I think the image works. I'd love to hear what you think. Does it work? If so, why? If not, why not?

There are more images from this outing on my blog.
