I'm thinking about a new photo project...Dogs in Cars.

This Springer (and Lab) were waiting for his owner while he was delivering food for Meals On Wheels. -- Doug

Here is some inspiration. I saw this posted by one of my dog friends.

Sorry but I have a problem with images like this. I believe we should never let our dogs hang their heads out the window while moving. The things that can get in eyes and ears let alone other possiblities are a real concern of mine. You should hear how upset I could get if we have images in the back of pickups - smile

I see your point Peggy Sue. But if I put my restrictions on other peoples 'art' then someone might want to censor me in the same way. I absolutely agree that the animals should not be put in danger.

Hey Peggy,

I 100% agree with you - and while I have photographed dogs in cars, never one where the pet was in a moving vehicle. Point well made - and taken!

You know that dogs a running at speeds of up to 60kph and more, don't you? So where's the problem if a dog puts her or his head outpof a car window as long as you aren't going faster. It's juist the same, ain't it? My Shar Pei just love to to drive with their front legs on the window frame and the heads in the wind - and this is absolutely fine for me up to 50 kph. Of cousye they are secured by a belt, prevehting them from jumping out of the car. If I accelerate to higher speeds I close the window - so what. They are supposed to enjoy their lives and I defintely won't prevent them from dong what they love to to - within reasonable limits, that is.

How could anyone enjpoy their lives if they try to avoid anything that might be risky. Don't go skiing, don't go biking, don't go inline skating, don't do this, don't eat that. Ahhh I'm so tired of these safety-possessed times.

Is the issue here with 'depicting the activity' or is it the safety of the subject? I 100% agree on the safety of the subject, not so much on depicting the activity.

I had a feeling we might be in for a discussion about this. I am not in it for preventing you from hanging your head out a window. That is your choice. But just because a dog or a child likes to do something that does not mean it is good for them. Yes running at 35 mph is something that can be done but usually it is not sustained for long periods of time on highways where stones can fly at them.

I do not believe this is a recent thing on being afraid from doing fun things. I know of a man who has a false elbow from placing his arm on the window while he drives. Just yesterday I almost had my mirror removed from my truck as another truck wandered out of his lane into mine. Had one of my dogs had their heads out of the window, major injury would have taken place.

So, you can certainly have fun doing what you want. I have the right to express my anxiety about it. If I were to allow my pups to do what you enjoy, at the very least I would have googles on them. Sorry you are tired of others opinions not agreeing with yours.

Sorry, Don, I'm with Peggy Sue on this one. My dogs may love to hang their heads out of the windows of a moving car but they only ride with restraints, either on the seat with a seatbelt or in a crate. If I have to stop quickly, any dog riding free is at risk of injury. It's like those folks who think it's OK to let their dogs ride free in the bed of a pickup truck. Sorry, it's not only dangerous it's irresponsible. Can folks do what they want to do? Absolutely! Will I be willing to tell them if I think it's wrong: Even more absolutely!!

Jim
