Hey Everyone,

It looks like the specs for the new Canon EOS 5d Mark III is out. For those of you who currently own a '2' would this make you want to upgrade? I have been begging for a better autofocus mechanism for ages, and the high ISO performance I hope will be better...but otherwise, it looks like a 5d Mark II.

So the question is - if you own a '2' what reasons would make you upgrade to a '3?' Or, will you skip this model in hopes for a higher megapixel count later this year (Rumored 3d....yet again)?

James

...well, it is official. With a $3500 MSRP, is it worth it?

DpReview just showed off some low light samples taken under "tough lighting conditions." The jpegs look pretty darned good to me at ISO 3200.

The samples on the Canon site are also pretty impressive, especially a couple at 3200 ISO.

The autofocus and quiet shutter might make me jump. I have to replace the 5DM2 at some point anyway. I think it is $600 too expensive and will probably drop soon after summer.

Hey Preston,

Lol, I jumped. Having said that, I thought long and hard before I did. Personally, I think it is close to 800 too expensive...1000 too much if you include that the new grip (not backwards compat) is 499.00. Mhaving said that, i have been holding off on purchases for the last year and a half and it was time, perhaps my old 20d will pay for 1/2 of the grip.:)

James, the 5dm2 grip will work fine on it. BG-E6

Hey Preston,

Are you sure about this? It looks like the new grip is a BG-E11. I checked the Canon USA website and they don't mention the BG-E6 as a possible alternative accessory.

Thanks
James
