Since the water temps of Lake Mich. are relatively high, the water spouts stay on the Lake and if they approach the land they dissipate.
If you were on a boat you would be in trouble, my Mom and Dad had a water spout hit their 26ft. sailboat many years ago, it tipped it over and they had a fortunate rescue by the coast guard.
