I recently got a new camera and my pictures are coming out a little blurry when printed. I had a Kodak z700 and never had this problem. My new camera is a Fugi s5200. What can I do to fix this?

post a few. it's impossible to tell what youre doing without a substantial amount of information, starting with a couple of examples.

also post shutter speed, focal length, and iso etc.

I donnt know what the dealy is on that camera, but that might be an issue. Post a few shots and we can help.

OK, lets try it this way since its been a few weeks since I took the pictures and dont know what the settings were, What settings would I need to use to get a nice close up of a dog?
This is one of the pictures I had printed.

looks like dog movement to me as the feet are in focus but the body and head are not - could also be that you shot it wide open at say 2.8 and just missed the focus, but i think it's movement and shutterspeed. You need to shoot that at no less than 50mm, at f5.6 or smaller, and with a shutter speed of about 1/60th.

Depending on your light set up, shutte speed might be a moot issue. However if your shooting with a camera flash, set it for about 5.6 and 1/60th of a sec. Use a higher ISO of you cant get the power you need, like ISO 400.

shoot animals at eye level or there abouts. try not to streach them out. Also if you move them away from the backdrop, you might be able to reduce the shadows. Bounce some light off a white board or reflector, or a white ceiling and that will also help.

Look like the flash is too close, and too hot. I'd back it off a bit. the eyes took a lot of light and the coat's a little hot.

good luck.

Your exif says that you were shooting at 1600 ISO and it was 1/105th of a second at F3.2 and your flash fired.

The blur may be due to heavy noise reduction done in camera. Was there a reason you were shooting at 1600 ISO??? I generally shoot at ISO 100 when I am using a flash.

Well, probably because I have no idea what I am doing and thats what happens when the camera is smarter than the photographer. I have ordered some books to read but dont have them yet so for now its trial and error and thats why I am seeking advice. Thankyou for your help also.

Change the ISO to 100 and start from there. If you want, you can also put it in aperture priority and setting it at F 5.6, which should give you plenty of DOF on such a small sensor.

The shadows are the toughest thing to deal with. I find that I have to have my lights in several different directions to get the light to land the way that I want it to. Specifically, I typically bounce two lights to help drop shadows...I also use to flashes to bring out the eyes of the pet that I am photographing. I generally use a 4:1 ratio of bounced to straight on light. The harsher light helps bring out the fur in very nice ways.
