I am strictly an amateur but several people at work are asking to purchase some of my photos.
The question I have for the pros out there is do you put your signature in the corner(unabtrusively) like any other artist? I know you can embed it in the digital file for copyright purposes but I was more interested in the viewable artist perspective.

Hi Joe,

Generally I do sign my images in the corner when I sell or give away an image. I think that it adds something personal to the print (at least, I see it that way).

Cheers
James

Good question. What kind of pen do you use James? Would it be an OK idea to put the signature on in photoshop before printing?

Sharpie sells a couple of art pens that you can pick up at the local specialty shop. They cost about 3 dollars, you can purchase them in a variety of colors, including white. It 'paints' the color onto the photograph.

If you want to sign the print itself, make sure your pen is suitable for your paper. For example, some pens work fine on regular paper but on coated paper (like the old RC paper from darkroom days) it'll smudge.

for fine art, or wildlife, sign the print, or sign the mat if there's one. . .

How about adding your logo in photoshop? I have the worst handwriting, I have a devil of a time signing my paintings. (and always wish I could somehow stamp them!). I don't think it would look professional if I hand signed photos.

I would not do the PS stamp idea. However, if it works, do it, I dont think there are any rules. I forgot to mention that if there's a mat, I sign the mat in PENCIL not pen.

Maybe I better practice up on my sig. I always dread the end of a painting and having to sign it, it always ends up crooked and amateur (having 2 "d"s and 4 "e"s to match up doesn't help). I have seen some beautiful signatures on photos, it does look sharp.
