Wish I could catch these guys in frontal light more often. Most of the time they are backlit and with the Great Salt Lake behind them so I can't get around.

The only frontal shot:

These are gorgeous. The second two would be paintings in my home if they were mine. I love the lighting. The lighting you look for is never what I yearn for. I lust after what you have achieved. Beautiful. These animal are so lovely and you captured them.

Those are just beautiful! Our coyotes hide and though I have seen them(barely) in the bushes when riding my horse, I almost never see them out

Thanks all! I don't usually see them close up either. The winter has brought them our onto a causeway that runs across the Great Salt Lake from the mainland to a state park called Antelope Island. Out on the causeway itself they really don't have much room to avoid you so it makes it relatively easy to get the shots. You just have to be quick because they will take off running. Here's what they looked like about two weeks ago after a freezing fog:

Hey Jim,

Great shots all around. As to the monster bucks - GO GET'EM...though they should still have about a month or so til they all start to drop, yes?

Yes, some are dropping now, and it's not legal to treck out across the island in search of mule deer - that's a good think or there would be a 100 guys out there everyday molesting those deer.

Wow those are really amazing shots. I agree with PeggySue, those are the kinds of shots I would like for painting too especially #3. The lighting is beautiful, what lens were you using, and how far were you from them?

Shot them with a Canon 400mm f/5.6L on a 30D. Handheld bracing against the window frame of the car as the opportunity was too fluid for me to get my window mount into play.
