First off I would like to say the field report by John Isaac was great and inspiring. I have also shot with Olympus for many years. My first Digital was the D-500L Then I bought the C2500L, E-10, E-20, E-1 and now also have the E-510 which like John says, is really a great camera. Here is an image from the E-510, ZD 300 f/2.8 + 1.4 TC. I know this is a little over kill for a Dragonfly shot but I was really out trying to shot some birds but this was the best I could do that day (-:

That's 1 impressive photo tomh, thanks for posting it.

I've never been able to get a decent dragonfly pic, and yet they're my favorite insect.

Thanks for the comment. Yes, that lense is very sharp. I must say it looks a bit odd to my at the E-510 because of the small size of the camera. I am more use to seeing it on my E-1 but, that lense and the new E-510 is a great combo.

Sarah,

Sounds like you might know your dragonflies. Could you tell me what this one is? I shot it in San Diego.

Ill take a guess at a Male Meadowhawk. You might go to www.bugguide.net and check out photos of that as well as the Flame Tailed Skimmer or Red Pennant. Im not that great with other than the ones familiar to me in my area. Its a real beauty

Sarah,

Thanks for getting back to me. I thought you must have missed this so I just did a general post this morning. I did check bug guide but none of the red ones I found looked exactly like this one. I know I saw a very similar one when I was in Zion a couple of years ago so they must be fairly common out west. I'll let you know if I pin it down. Thanks again.
