Don't be so quick to dismiss the FF sensor because of DX lenses. The first thing I did when I got the D3 was disable the auto DX crop and shoot with some DX lenses. You can actually get full frame coverage with them throughout much of the range.
Even when you start loosing the edges of the frame to the smaller image circle, there is more usable picture there than with the auto DX crop.
