Boaters, park officials clash over rules restricting use of fragile Florida Bay shallows
A decade of chasing tarpon and snook through Florida Bay's teal waters has taught Rob Clift the tricks to navigating this 600-square-mile lagoon off the southern tip of Florida where the Everglades bleed into the ocean. The bay is so shallow that a strong northeast wind in a low tide can virtually drain it, so judging depth is the key. Clift, a former guide, reads the surface for clues: mangrove seedlings, wading birds, subtle changes in color.

Opening of new Dolly Parton musical raises $102K
The premiere of Dolly Parton's new musical "Sha-Kon-O-Hey! Land of Blue Smoke" at Dollywood raised $102.000 for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, according to Friends of the Smokies, a group dedicated to serving the national park. Parton wrote eight tunes for the show, which traces the history of the mountains -- from its first settlers to the government declaring it a national park.
