On 75th birthday, Smokies park still faces great tests
If you’ve been reading the paper, you know that this is a big year for Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It’s the year the park marks its 75th anniversary with a string of events in both North Carolina and Tennessee. Although a Smokies park was authorized during the Coolidge administration, it wasn’t officially established until 1934 and thus is considered 75 years old in 2009.
