Once again, Acadia National Park is participating in Saturday’s Early Bird and Pajama Party festivities. The park will sell entrance passes for one-half price at the information office across from the Bar Harbor Village Green from 6 to 9 a.m.

The park uses sharpshooters to cull the park`s elk population rather than reintroducing wolves, which the groups want, saying this approach would permanently resolve the park`s elk problems.

Theodore Roosevelt park elk harvest is about game management
The reduction of the elk herd in Theodore Roosevelt National Park has begun. Volunteer sharpshooters have been harvesting animals for two weeks, part of a plan to cull the herd from about 1,000 animals to as few as 100 elk for the 70,000 acre park.

Mine Cleanup Conflict
Montana officials may change their plan to haul mine waste over a Wyoming highway. The plan was part of a gold mine cleanup to protect Yellowstone, but at a packed House meeting in Cody Tuesday night, Montana Representatives heard about Wyoming’s problems with the plan.
