The Mountain Goats herd at the bottom of Little Cottonwood Canyon ( 6,000- 7,000 ft) at times in the winter months, but in the summer when it warms up they are at higher elevations,
(10,000- 11,000) ft and are more spread out, so they are harder to find (takes luck). You are in for some hiking in the summer, but we see them from the road up to Alta in the winter. Alta is an hour from the airport, and it and Snowbird are worth the trip for you in August, you can ride the Tram up to 11,000 ft and hike from there.
The tourist trap, must be Park City. But it also is very beautiful. But it is Litte Cottonwood Canyon you need to see.
