Lightning Caused Point Fire on Grand Canyon North Rim Increases Activity
Drier weather over the weekend has led to increased fire activity and moderate growth on the Point Fire, located on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park which was started by lightning July 4, 2011.

NATIONAL, LOCAL SPORTSMEN’S ORGANIZATIONS UNITE IN CALL FOR GRAND CANYON PROTECTIONS FROM URANIUM MINING (Note - not really news, but a call to action, I suppose)
Multiple local and national sportsmen’s organizations have sent a letter ( http://www.az-tu.org/Sportsmen_Salazar_GC_Uranium_Mining_071511.pdf ) to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, thanking him for upholding the temporary moratorium on new uranium mining on 1 million acres around Grand Canyon National Park, and requesting he extend the ban to 20 years when his agency’s analysis is completed this fall.

Yosemite rangers fear hikers swept over falls
A search and rescue operation at Yosemite National Park is set to resume at first light Wednesday in an area below a popular waterfall after witnesses reported seeing at least one hiker swept over the falls.
