thanks for your comment. Yes, I love the Bearcoats too. Unfortunately, the breed masters (don't know the proper English term) opted for withdrawing the Bearcoat's breed standard, in the early 1980s and so, they have become extremely rare, in Europe. Although the first Shar Pei Champion in the Western World - in the 1970s - was a Bearcoat. And although there were just about 150 Pei worldwide somewhen in the 70s, resulting in an extremely small gene pool.

All this doesn't mean that there aren't many Bearcoats born but the majority of the breeders are cruel enough to just kill the Bearcoat puppies as they don't want the public to know that their breed has got the Bearcoat gene.

Fotunately, there are some breeders - such as Sandy Shreu in Australia - who breed Bearcoats, nevertheless.
