Road surfacing and improvement work has been completed for the Glenn Springs, Maverick and Pine Canyon backcountry roads within Big Bend National Park. These roads, and the campsites along these roads, have been reopened to traffic for visitor enjoyment.

Park managers say this year’s bison count is down 200 from last year’s count. The population is estimated to be 3,700 bison, based on a series of aerial surveys — 2,300 bison on the Northern Range and 1,400 in the Central Interior herd.
