It’s Official — Denali Climbing Fees Increasing
After years of consideration, public comment, and consultation with climbing advocacy groups, the National Park Service is raising the cost of a permit to climb Denali and Mt. Foraker from $200 to $250 for anyone 24 and under and to $350 everyone else, effective during next year’s climbing season. Fees were instituted in 1995 to help defray rescue costs, but as the price of everything has increased, the share from permit revenues has shrunk to just 17 percent of the program that supports search and rescue and education, from its original 30 percent.
