The composition is indeed cute. You definitely need to kick up the light in the shot. I recall with your last batch that Julie (I believe) was able to really boost the photo up with a bit of work in PhotoShop.

I am not sure how you are metering your photos when you take them, however, I suggest that you pay close attention to the histogram. The LCD lies, the histogram does not.
