I spend alot of effort on BIF. The larger birds like this Great Egret can be very challenging because in addition to catching the action, getting the right exposure for a solid white bird is always tricky. This particular capture is one the many that makes me thankful I use a zoom lens instead of a prime for BIF. This was captured at a FL of 100mm which is the widest FL of my Sigma 100-300mm. I would have missed this using a 300mm prime (which is what I used to use). This image also goes against the rule of trying to catch a bird from the side or front so that the eyes show. The only way to catch this large wingspan showing this turbulence would not have worked from any other angle for this shot.
