If you can't decide between a D300 and a D3, why not just buy a D300 AND a D700. I have uses for both. It shouldn't cost that much different between both D300 + D700 cameras and a D3. One huge benefit you would have in buying the D300 + D700 is that you have a back up camera in case one stops working.
