Nikon reports a 1/500 max for the D70 right, so I am not to far off. Like you said though, I can go manually up above 1/1000 and have shot at 1/1250 a few time for no good reason:) My assumption is that the flash pulse is just quick enough for the flashes I use, and apparently the trigger voltage is on the hot shoe either way. I have read that a typical flash pulse is on the order of 1/10000. Maybe what Nikon is saying is TTL and iTTL are only accurate up to 1/500 and since I am manually setting up the aperture per the histogram and flashing highlights (expose to the right) it doesn’t really matter. I had the same thing with my ld Coolpix 995.
