I wondered if any of you have had your work licensed by any company?

Yes I have had my images licensed by companies. What did you want to know?

Have you been happy with your agreements? Did you get an attorney? Are you happy with the product and its sales? Did you work on percentage or a buyout on the product useage?

Oh, well, tell me as much as you want to report.

I have a company that makes products for me, want licensing of my work. Seems like it might be a conflict of my best interest or it may be wonderful. Have not seen contract yet but they are going to have the licensing manager call. Sure would like some experience other than what I have read. - Help!

Yes I have been happy with my agreements. If I didn't like the agreement, I said "No".

Did you get an attorney?

No I didn't use an attorney. I don't like attorney's. I used a form from ASMP.

I have been happy with some of the sales and not happy with other sales. It is a gamble that we take, so I don't worry about it. I preview the product before it is released, so I am always happy with the product. Even though it is their product, it is still YOUR photo.

I never give anybody a buyout because then they control my photo instead of me. I charge a fee and a percentage. If they don't like the deal, then they can go elsewhere. They probably could not afford my buyout price anyway. It is cheaper for them to pay a fee and a percentage.

I'll explain as much as you want to read.

It is YOUR image and YOUR sale, so YOU should be providing the contract. You don't go into a store to buy something and you supply the receipt. You should go out and get the book ASMP Professional Business Practices in Photography and the CRODOC computer program PhotoQuote Pro. Then you will have all the knowledge you need to do this right and protect yourself. Photoquote Pro even has coaching tips on negotiations. You really need to buy both of these. The licensing Manager probably already has both of these, so why be at a disadvantage?

David, thanks so very much for your advise. I take your advise. As this process progresses I may have a few more questions. Thanks for helping.
